Mental Health Unlocked Charitable Foundation provides the following list of helpful organisations. This is for information purposes only and there is no affiliation with these groups. The details are subject to change because of the dynamic nature of the voluntary organisations and the subject matter. The list is not exhaustive as it is impossible to list all organisations and further research is advised for your local area.

ABC (Anorexia & Bulimia Care) - Telephone 0300 011 1213 Helpline. Anorexia and Bulimia Care is a National UK Eating Disorders organisation providing ongoing care, emotional support and practical guidance for anyone affected by eating disorders. ACAS (Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service) Telephone 0300 123 1100. ACAS provides free and impartial information and advice to employers and employees on all aspects of workplace relations and employment law. Supports good relationships between employers and employees, but also provide conciliation services to resolve workplace problems. Website: www.acas.org.uk

Action on Postpartum Psychosis Telephone 0203 3229 900. Action on Postpartum Psychosis is a network of women with lived experience of postnatal psychosis, professionals and academics in the field. It offers peer support to families affected by postnatal psychosis, raises awareness and supports research into its causes. Website: www.app-network.org

Adfam - Families, drugs and alcohol. Telephone 0207 553 7640. Adfam provides information and support for families affected by drugs and alcohol. Their website includes listing of helplines and local support groups available across England, as well as training and information for drug and alcohol professionals. Website: www.adfam.org.uk

Age UK Telephone 0800 169 2081 (Freephone advice line) Age UK provides a range of information and support services for older people and those caring for them. Includes befriending services to combat loneliness in elderly people, which may contribute to Mental Health issues. Website: www.ageuk.org.uk

Alzheimer’s Society Telephone 0300 222 1122 (Helpline, see website for opening hours) The Alzheimer’s Society provides a range of information and support services for anyone affected by Dementia. Website: www.alzheimers.org.uk

Anxiety UK Telephone 08444 775 774 Infoline 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM Monday to Friday. Anxiety UK is a National Charity run by people with lived experience of anxiety, aiming to support everyone affected by anxiety through information and support. Big White Wall. A safe online community of people who are anxious, down, or not coping who support and help each other by sharing what’s troubling them, guided by trained professionals. Also available as an app. Website: www.bigwhitewall.com

Bipolar UK Telephone 0333 323 3880. Bipolar UK is the National Charity dedicated to supporting individuals with a diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder, as well as their families and carers. Provide information through their website and via phone and also run national self-help support groups, online support and employment support. Website: www.bipolaruk.org

CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) Telephone 0800 58 58 58 Helpline 5 PM to Midnight 7 days a week. The Campaign Against Living Miserably is a charity which exists to prevent male suicide in the UK. They run a dedicated support line and online webchat for men who are experiencing emotional distress or who are in crisis. Childline. Telephone 0800 1111 Freephone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Provides free confidential counselling and emotional support for children and young people. Online chat services with a counsellor are also available on the website. Website: www.childline.org.uk

Citizen’s Advice Telephone 03444 111 444 (National telephone service). Citizen’s Advice provides free, independent information and advice for people on money, legal, consumer, housing and other problems. Its website is searchable for local Citizen’s Advice Bureaus and also has a dedicated web chat service. Website: www.citizensadvice.org.uk

Cruse Bereavement Care Telephone 0808 808 1677 Helpline, see website for opening hours. Cruse Bereavement Care offer support, advice and information to children, young people and adults when someone dies. They run a helpline as well as bereavement counselling and facilitated self-help groups across the country. Website: www.cruse.org.uk

Dementia UK Telephone 0800 888 6678 (Freephone helpline) Dementia UK offers specialist one to one support and expert advice for people living with Dementia, including nursing support through their team of Admiral Nurses. Website: www.dementiauk.org

Depression UK - Depression UK is a National self-help organisation that offer support to everyone affected by depression. Website: www.depressionuk.org

Department of Health. The aim of the Department of Health is to help people to live better for longer. Its site provides information on health and social care policy and guidance publications and statistics. Website: www.dh.gov.uk

Down Your Drink. Down Your Drink is a free website based programme allowing people to look more closely at their drinking and examine ways of cutting down. Developed by a team of researchers at University College London and endorsed by Alcohol Concern. Website: www.downyourdrink.org.uk

DrugWise. DrugWise provides a comprehensive resource of research information, statistics and reports relating to drugs, alcohol and tobacco. Website: www.drugwise.org.uk

Emergence. Emergence is a service user led organisation with the overarching aim of supporting all people affected by Personality Disorder, including service users, cares, family and friends and professionals. Website: www.emergenceplus.org.uk

Family Action Telephone 020 7254 6251. Family Action transforms lives by providing practical, emotional and financial support to those who are experiencing poverty, disadvantage and social isolation across England. They aim to strengthen families and communities by building skills and resilience. Their support services include a focus on parental Mental Health issues, including issues such as perinatal depression. Website: www.family-action.org.uk

Food for the Brain Telephone 0300 365 0130. Food for the Brain are a Charitable Foundation raising awareness of the importance of optimum nutrition in Mental Health. They work to inform organisations and empower individuals to change their diet and lifestyle and take greater control of their own Mental Health. Grassroots. Grassroots is a small charity focused on suicide prevention through training, consultancy and project work, including the #StayAlive app for those at risk of suicide or worried about someone else. Providers of ASIST training. Website: www.prevent-suicide.org.uk

Harmless. Harmless is a user led organisation that provides a range of services about self-harm, including support, information, training and consultancy to people who self-harm, their friends and families and professionals. Headspace. App based around teaching mindfulness meditation principles to improve wellbeing. Website: www.headspace.com

Hearing Voices Network Telephone 0114 271 8210. The Hearing Voices Network is committed to helping people who hear voices, see visions and experience tactical sensations and those that support them. They run a range of self-help groups and deliver training for professionals and the general public. Website: www.hearing-voices.org

Help for Heroes Telephone 01980 844 280. Help for Heroes provides direct support for wounded, injured and sick veterans and serving members of the Armed Forces and their families, including Mental Health support. Website: www.helpforheroes.org.uk

Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT+) Telephone 0300 330 0630 Local call rates, 10 AM to 11 PM, 7 days a week. Confidential support, information and referral services for the LGBT community, including online chat services. Website: www.switchboard.lgbt

Marijuana Anonymous UK Telephone 0300 124 0373. Organisation running self-help groups across the UK for those with substance use issues relating to marijuana, based on 12-step recovery model. Website: www.marijuana-anonymous.org.uk

Men’s Health Forum. Men’s Health Forum provide free, independent health information focusing on male issues, including particular projects around men’s Mental Health. Website: www.menshealthforum.org.uk

MGEDT (Men Get Eating Disorders Too!) National Charity raising awareness of eating disorders in men. Also provides peer support services for men affected by eating disorders. Website: www.mengetedstoo.co.uk

Mind information line Telephone 300 123 3393 Local Rates 9 AM to 6 PM Monday to Friday. Provides information on types of mental health issues, where to get help, medication and alternative treatments and advocacy. Website: www.mind.org.uk

NAPAC Telephone 0808 801 0331 Freephone. The National Association for People abused in childhood provide support for people affected by sexual abuse in childhood through a dedicated support line, free online resources and training. Website: www.napac.org.uk

National Debtline Telephone 0808 808 4000 Freephone 9 AM to 8 PM Monday to Friday 9:30 AM to 1 PM Saturday. The National Debtline is an Independent Charity which provides free, confidential specialist advice on managing financial debt via a helpline, online information and free web chats. NHS Choices. NHS Choices provides a wide range of accessible information on all health related issues, including symptoms, conditions, treatments and local NHS services available. This includes a dedicated section on Mental Health (under the ‘Live Well’ heading). Website: www.nhs.uk

Nightline. Telephone numbers vary. Check website for available local numbers. The Nightline Association provides listening, support and information helplines run by university students for university students, including about Mental Health related issues. Website: www.nightline.ac.uk

NSHN (National Self Harm Network) The National Self Harm Network offers on online moderated support forum for people affected by self-harm. Website: www.nshn.co.uk

NSPCC Telephone 0808 800 5000 Freephone 24 hours a day seven days a week for adults concerned about a child. The NSPCC is the children’s charity dedicated to entering child abuse and child cruelty, runs ChildLine too. Website: www.nspcc.org.uk

OCD Action Telephone 0845 390 6232. OCD Action is the National Charity focusing on Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It provide supporting information to those affected by OCD, and works to increase awareness of it. Runs a variety of self-help groups across the country as well as online support groups and advocacy services. Website: www.ocdaction.org.uk

Papyrus. Telephone 0800 068 4141 Freephone Helpline Monday to Friday 10 AM to 10 PM, Weekends 2 PM to 10 PM. Papyrus is the National Charity for the prevention of young suicide. It runs HOPELineUK, a dedicated suicide prevention hotline for anyone up to the age of 35 who may be feeling suicidal, or anyone who is concerned about a young person. Website: www.papyrus-uk.org

Place2Be. Telephone 0207 923 5500. Place2Be provides emotional and therapeutic services in primary and secondary schools to build children’s resilience through talking, creative work and play. Website: www.place2be.org.uk

Public Health England. Public Health England is the National Public Health Agency. It aims to protect and improve the nation’s health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities. Its site provides public health research and policy publications. Website: www.phe.gov.uk

Rape Crisis Telephone 0808802999 Freephone helpline. Rape crisis is a national charity supporting anyone who has experience rape, child sexual abuse and or any other kind of sexual violence it runs local rape crisis helplines and centres across England and Wales, details of which can be found on their Website: www.rapecrisis.org.uk

Refuge Telephone 0808 2000 247 Freephone 24 hours a day seven days a week. Refuge provides help and information about domestic violence. It runs a 24/7 domestic violence helpline in partnership with Women’s Aid. Refuge runs a number of safe houses for women and children escaping domestic violence as well as other services. Relate Telephone 0300 100 1234. Relate is a National Charity offering a range of services to help with couple and family relationships, including counselling support and therapy focussing on relationship issues. Website: www.relate.org.uk

Richmond Fellowship Telephone 0207 697 3300. The Richmond Fellowship is one of the largest Voluntary Sector Organisations providing support for people with Mental Health problems. Its aim is to work towards a society that values everyone with Mental Health issues, through providing supported housing and employment support services to help people find work or stay in work. Royal College of Psychiatrists Telephone 020 7235 2351. The Royal College of Psychiatrists is the professional medical body responsible for oversight of psychiatrists in the UK. It provides training, conducts research and sets standards for the profession, and also provides information for the general public on Mental Health issues and Mental Health services and treatments. Student Minds. Student Minds is the UK’s student Mental Health Charity, aiming to provide students with the skills, knowledge and confidence to talk about their Mental Health and support their peers. Website: www.studentminds.org.uk

Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide is the National Charity to meet the needs and break the isolation experienced by those bereaved by suicide. Time to Change. Time to Change is the main National Anti-Stigma campaign, run by leading Mental Health Charities Mind and Rethink Mental Illness. Together for Mental Wellbeing Telephone 0207 780 7300. Together is a National Charity working alongside people with Mental Health issues. UK SMART Recovery. Provides training to help people manage their recovery from any type of addictive behaviour, including alcohol and substance use as well as gambling, sex, eating, shopping etc. through a range of self-help meetings. Website: www.smartrecovery.org.uk

Victim Support is an Independent Charity working towards a world where people affected by crime or traumatic events get the support they need and the respect they deserve. They run a confidential free helpline for anyone affected by crime as well as emotional and practical support, including advice on reporting the crime and processes involved in going to court and what happens during the trial. YoungMinds is the UK’s leading charity committed to improving the emotional wellbeing and Mental Health of children and young people through campaign, research and policy work.
